A history of the project
In 1999 First Step Trust received funding to set up a new project in the west of the borough for people with mental health problems, learning difficulties and drug and alcohol problems. Initially based in West Hendon, the priority was to establish a workforce and customer base for work carried out in the community.
OUR LOCATION
In 2000 we relocated to our present premises which can easily be accessed by bus, underground and mainline trains.

Our large customer base has been established by providing a high standard of work completed in a given timescale which achieves customer satisfaction and recommendations to funds, neighbours, etc.
We have a large number of repeat garden maintenance contracts, painting & decorating work for both Barnet and Edgware Hospitals as well as in and for the community. We are on the Barnet Approved Contractor list. We also carry out small removals and support the local authority Returning Home Scheme for people returning to their homes after a spell in hospital.
We offer a full range of IT based office services to the local business community and public including letter writing, facsimile, internet, e-mail, scanning, laminating and shredding. We have customers from the local university who are a major contract business customer.
We received funding to set up a new IT Centre which provided training for workforce to achieve NVQ Level 1 in IT. 10 workforce achieved their NVQ Level 1 in IT and 2 additional workforce became qualified Assessors.

9.00 am to 5.30 pm Monday to Friday.
DATABASE WEBSITES
We received additional funding to create our own database called fstinfo.com which was launched in November 2004 and is online containing mental health services information for service users and professionals. The site also contains other useful information including details of local solicitors, community organisations, GP’s and chemists. The database has recently begun to be rolled out across the whole of North London.
The funding now includes the maintaining of the local barnet mental health day services website which First Step Trust set up and which is linked to our own database.
